Tips from our drivers for The Mornington Centre

  • Bring any walking frame or wheelchair you have been using in rehab, and let us know so we send the right vehicle.
  • For a discharge home, ask staff roughly when you will be ready and use “pick up when ready” for the trip.
  • Visitors coming from Frankston or the southern Peninsula can book a return trip with a set pick-up time.

Going home from The Mornington Centre

Pick-up point
Patients going home usually meet the taxi at main reception. Tell us your ward and we will call when we arrive.

Discharge tips

  • Book a “pick up when ready” trip ahead: choose the day, then tap “I’m ready” on your booking page (or call us) when the ward lets you go.
  • Discharge often takes longer than planned — waiting for medicines, a doctor’s sign-off or transport letters is normal. We only send the car when you are ready.
  • Have your discharge letter, medicines and any walking aids with you, and tell us if you need help from the ward to the car.
  • Travelling with a wheelchair or a carer? Say so when you book so we send the right vehicle.

The Mornington Centre is a Peninsula Health facility in Mornington that focuses on subacute care: rehabilitation, care for older people recovering from illness or surgery, and palliative care. Many patients come here after a stay at Frankston Hospital, to regain strength and confidence before returning home.

Because stays are often longer, the centre sees a steady flow of visitors: partners, children and friends coming from Mornington, Mount Martha, Mount Eliza, Frankston and further down the Peninsula. Some patients also come back after discharge for outpatient therapy. A lot of these trips involve people who cannot drive, either because of their condition or because their usual driver is the person in care. For many families, getting a loved one home safely at the end of a rehabilitation stay is just as important as getting there.

Taxi Peninsula helps on every side of that journey. We can bring a spouse in to visit each afternoon, take a patient home in a wheelchair accessible van when they are discharged with new mobility aids, or run regular trips to follow-up therapy. Our drivers are used to helping people who are still getting their strength back, and we accept MPTP cards, NDIS and aged-care accounts.

How long does it take to get to The Mornington Centre?

A rough guide without traffic. We allow extra time for loading your wheelchair.

Questions about taxis to The Mornington Centre

I’m being discharged from rehab with a new walker. Can it come in the taxi?

Yes. Walking frames fold and travel in the boot of a sedan or in the back of a wheelchair van. If you are going home in a wheelchair, book a wheelchair accessible van so you can stay seated in it, secured with four-point restraints and a lap-sash seatbelt. Tell us about the equipment when you book.

Can you do a regular visiting trip for my partner?

Yes. Many people book the same trip several times a week to visit someone at The Mornington Centre. Book each trip online, or call and ask us to set up regular bookings. MPTP cards can be used on each trip for eligible passengers, which helps keep regular travel affordable.

Where will you drop me off at The Mornington Centre?

We set down at the front entrance near reception. If you are being collected after a stay, let us know the ward so the driver can meet you there or at reception.

Can you wait or pick me up after my appointment at The Mornington Centre?

Yes. Book a return trip with an approximate time, then call or text us when you are ready. Appointments often run late, so we keep return pick-ups flexible.

Is there step-free access at The Mornington Centre?

The centre is a single site with a main reception entrance that is step-free. If you are visiting a particular ward or therapy area, tell us and we will drop you at the most suitable door.

Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?

Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.

Can a carer or family member come too?

Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

How do I pay?

Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
