Going home from Kingston Centre

Pick-up point
Patients usually meet the taxi at main reception or the entrance of their unit. Let us know which when booking.

Discharge tips

  • Book a “pick up when ready” trip ahead: choose the day, then tap “I’m ready” on your booking page (or call us) when the ward lets you go.
  • Discharge often takes longer than planned — waiting for medicines, a doctor’s sign-off or transport letters is normal. We only send the car when you are ready.
  • Have your discharge letter, medicines and any walking aids with you, and tell us if you need help from the ward to the car.
  • Travelling with a wheelchair or a carer? Say so when you book so we send the right vehicle.

Kingston Centre in Cheltenham is a Monash Health facility focused on care for older people. It provides rehabilitation, geriatric medicine, aged-care services and related outpatient programs, helping people recover after illness or surgery and plan for life back at home or in care.

Many Kingston Centre patients have come from an acute hospital, and stays can last weeks. Their partners are often older too, and may no longer drive, which makes regular visits from Frankston or the Peninsula difficult. Patients attending outpatient programs also need a dependable way to get there and home. Families can also find the site itself a little confusing on the first visit, with different programs located in different buildings. A driver who drops you at the right door and waits while you get your bearings can make the first few visits much easier for an older partner travelling alone.

Taxi Peninsula is well suited to these trips. Our wheelchair accessible vans and Maxi WATs carry passengers in their chairs with four-point restraints, and our sedans suit visitors who can manage a car seat. Drivers are patient and help door to door, and we accept MPTP cards as well as NDIS and aged-care accounts.

How long does it take to get to Kingston Centre?

A rough guide without traffic. We allow extra time for loading your wheelchair.

Questions about taxis to Kingston Centre

How do I find the right building at Kingston Centre?

Ask the ward or your care team which building or unit you need, then add it to your booking notes. Our driver will take you to that entrance where the site roads allow. If you are not sure, we will drop you at main reception, where staff can direct you.

Can you take my mother out from Kingston Centre in her wheelchair?

If the care team is happy for her to have an outing, yes. Book a wheelchair accessible van so she can stay in her chair, secured with four-point restraints and a lap-sash seatbelt. You can travel with her, and we can bring her back at a set time or when you call.

Where will you drop me off at Kingston Centre?

We drop off at the main reception unless you ask for a specific building. Unit names on your paperwork make this much easier.

Can you wait or pick me up after my appointment at Kingston Centre?

Yes. Book a return trip with an approximate time, then call or text us when you are ready. Appointments often run late, so we keep return pick-ups flexible.

Is there step-free access at Kingston Centre?

Kingston Centre is spread across a large site with several buildings. Tell us the ward, unit or program you are visiting so we can drop you at the right step-free entrance.

Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?

Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.

Can a carer or family member come too?

Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

How do I pay?

Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
