Flinders Street Station is Melbourne’s best-known landmark station, at the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets opposite Federation Square. It is the hub of the metropolitan train network and the start of many trips home, including on the Frankston line.
Peninsula residents often head into the city for a show, a sporting event at the MCG or Rod Laver Arena, or a night out. Getting home late can mean a long train ride to Frankston followed by a wait for a bus or a taxi. After a big event, crowds on trains can be heavy. For groups, a single taxi or Maxi WAT can be more convenient and comfortable than several people travelling separately by train and then needing a lift from Frankston. Passengers with wheelchairs or mobility aids also find a direct ride much easier than crowded late-night trains and station changes.
