Frankston Station is the end of the Frankston line and the main rail gateway to the Mornington Peninsula. It was rebuilt with a modern station building and bus interchange, and it is also where passengers change for the diesel shuttle to Stony Point.

Many people heading to the Peninsula arrive at Frankston by train and then need to get to Mornington, Mount Martha, Rosebud, Sorrento or the hinterland. Bus connections exist, but they can be slow or infrequent, especially at night and on weekends, and they are hard work with luggage or a wheelchair. Late at night, waiting for a bus after a train trip can be uncomfortable, and many passengers prefer to have a taxi booked and waiting.
