Going home from Monash Children’s Hospital

Pick-up point
Families usually meet the taxi at the children’s hospital entrance. Tell us the ward when you book.

Discharge tips

  • Book a “pick up when ready” trip ahead: choose the day, then tap “I’m ready” on your booking page (or call us) when the ward lets you go.
  • Discharge often takes longer than planned — waiting for medicines, a doctor’s sign-off or transport letters is normal. We only send the car when you are ready.
  • Have your discharge letter, medicines and any walking aids with you, and tell us if you need help from the ward to the car.
  • Travelling with a wheelchair or a carer? Say so when you book so we send the right vehicle.

Monash Children’s Hospital is a public paediatric hospital on the Monash Medical Centre site in Clayton, run by Monash Health. It cares for babies, children and teenagers from across south-east Melbourne, with specialist clinics, inpatient wards and neonatal care.

Families from Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula are often referred here for specialist paediatric care. Appointments can be frequent, and a sick or anxious child makes a long drive and a hunt for parking much harder. Some families do not have a car available on weekdays. Some children have regular clinic visits for ongoing conditions, while others are admitted for surgery or a period of treatment. Parents often need to juggle work, siblings and school pick-ups at the same time, so a booked ride that turns up on time and waits for the right moment to load a child, their chair and their equipment is a real help.

Taxi Peninsula provides door-to-door trips for the whole family. Children who use a wheelchair can travel seated in their chair with four-point restraints, and siblings and parents can come along. Bring your child’s car seat and the driver will give you time to fit it. We accept NDIS accounts, and fixed quotes are available on request.

How long does it take to get to Monash Children’s Hospital?

A rough guide without traffic. We allow extra time for loading your wheelchair.

Questions about taxis to Monash Children’s Hospital

Do you provide child car seats?

Please bring your own car seat or booster suitable for your child’s age and size. Our drivers will help you load it and allow time to fit it properly before setting off. If your child travels in their own wheelchair, book a wheelchair accessible van and they can stay in their chair, secured with four-point restraints.

Can we use NDIS funding for trips to Monash Children’s?

We accept NDIS accounts. If your child’s plan includes transport funding, let us know when you book and we will make sure the trip is recorded correctly. If you are not sure what your plan covers, check with your plan manager or support coordinator before you travel.

Where will you drop me off at Monash Children’s Hospital?

We drop off at the Monash Children’s Hospital entrance set-down area. Tell us the clinic or ward so we can confirm the right spot.

Can you wait or pick me up after my appointment at Monash Children’s Hospital?

Yes. Book a return trip with an approximate time, then call or text us when you are ready. Appointments often run late, so we keep return pick-ups flexible.

Is there step-free access at Monash Children’s Hospital?

Monash Children’s Hospital has its own entrance, separate from the main Monash Medical Centre entrance. It is step-free and suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?

Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.

Can a carer or family member come too?

Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

How do I pay?

Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
