Searoad Ferries runs the car and passenger ferry across the mouth of Port Phillip between Sorrento and Queenscliff. The crossing links the Mornington Peninsula with the Bellarine Peninsula, Geelong and the Great Ocean Road, and is a popular day trip in its own right, with views of the heads and sometimes dolphins.
Many people cross as foot passengers, whether they are visiting Queenscliff for the day, connecting to Geelong or heading further west. Others are holidaymakers staying in Sorrento, Rye or Blairgowrie who want to see the Bellarine without bringing their car. Getting to the terminal without driving is easy with a taxi, particularly in summer when parking is scarce. Groups of friends, cyclists and families with young children all use the ferry, and getting everyone to the terminal on time is easier when nobody has to worry about where to leave the car.
