In short

Taxi Peninsula provides wheelchair accessible taxis in Sorrento since 2016, using ramp and hoist vans with wheelchair restraints and drivers who help you from door to door. We travel anywhere across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, including hospitals, day programs and Melbourne and Avalon airports, and carers travel with you. Book online in about two minutes or call 0468 323 211. Fares depend on distance and waiting time; MPTP, NDIS and aged-care accounts are accepted.

Near the tip of the Peninsula, Sorrento is a historic seaside village with a busy summer season and a steady local community, and Taxi Peninsula serves it every hour of every day. Sedans handle everyday trips, and our wheelchair accessible taxis carry passengers in their own chairs.

Ocean Beach Road is Sorrento’s main street, lined with limestone buildings, galleries, cafes and boutiques running up from the bay. At the foreshore, the Searoad ferry crosses Port Phillip to Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula, and many of our passengers arrive or depart that way. Sorrento Back Beach and its rock pools face Bass Strait on the other side of the narrow Peninsula, and Point Nepean National Park begins just beyond Portsea. Locals rely on us for trips to Rosebud Hospital, Rosebud Plaza, Frankston Hospital, and Melbourne and Avalon airports, while visitors book us for restaurants, weddings and holiday accommodation. Out of season the town is quieter, and permanent residents use us for regular shopping trips, medical appointments and visits to family.

At the far end of the Peninsula, pre-booking is the best way to secure a car, particularly for early flights, ferry connections and evenings in summer. Groups heading to a wedding or dinner can share our Maxi WAT, which seats six plus two wheelchairs. MPTP cards are accepted and NDIS and aged-care accounts are welcome, with carers travelling alongside the passenger. Ask about a fixed quote for airport runs.

What should I know about getting around Sorrento?

Ocean Beach Road and the foreshore around the ferry terminal are very busy in summer and on long weekends, and parking is scarce. Point Nepean Road is the only main road in and out, so expect slow traffic during holiday peaks and after events. Ferry arrivals bring a rush of passengers at once, so arrange a clear meeting point near the terminal. There is no train on the southern Peninsula. Many back-street holiday homes are hard to find at night, so add property details to your booking. Narrow side streets near the main street have limited stopping space.

What trips can I book from Sorrento?

Questions about travelling in Sorrento

Can you meet me off the Queenscliff ferry in Sorrento?

Yes. Tell us roughly which sailing you are on and we will arrange a meeting point near the Sorrento ferry terminal. If the crossing is delayed, call us and we will adjust. Foot passengers with luggage, and passengers travelling in a wheelchair, can be met with a suitable vehicle.

Do you take wedding guests from Sorrento venues back to their accommodation?

We do. Book in advance with the venue name, finish time and the addresses guests need to reach. Late evenings in summer are busy, so locking in times early is wise. Our Maxi WAT can carry six seated guests plus two wheelchairs, which is useful for families or older relatives.

How far ahead should I book an airport taxi from Sorrento?

Book at least the day before, and earlier during summer and holiday periods. Sorrento is at the far end of the Peninsula, so we plan the pick-up time carefully around your flight. For arrivals, include your flight number and we will track it so the driver is there when you land.

Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?

Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.

Can a carer or family member come too?

Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

How do I pay?

Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
