Portsea is the last township on the Mornington Peninsula, a small, affluent seaside village set between Port Phillip and Bass Strait. Taxi Peninsula reaches it 24 hours a day with sedans and with wheelchair accessible vehicles for passengers who need to travel in their chair.
The village centres on the Portsea Hotel and the foreshore near Portsea Pier, which is busy with swimmers, divers and boaties in the warmer months. Beyond the township, Point Nepean National Park stretches to the tip of the Peninsula, with the historic Quarantine Station, Fort Nepean and coastal walking tracks. Portsea Back Beach and the London Bridge rock formation are on the ocean side. With few services in Portsea itself, residents and guests travel to Sorrento for shops and cafes, Rosebud Hospital and Rosebud Plaza, Frankston Hospital, and Melbourne Airport. Many homes here are holiday houses, so our bookings range from permanent residents needing appointments to guests arriving for summer stays, weddings and long lunches.
Pre-booking matters at the far tip of the Peninsula, so arrange early-morning airport runs the day before and book summer evening returns well ahead. For a group lunch or wedding, the Maxi WAT seats six with room for two wheelchairs. We accept MPTP cards, NDIS and aged-care accounts, and carers ride with the passenger. Ask for a fixed quote on a long trip back to Melbourne, and add your flight number for airport pick-ups.

What should I know about getting around Portsea?
Point Nepean Road ends at Portsea, so every trip in or out follows the same route through Sorrento, which slows considerably in summer and on long weekends. The Portsea Hotel and foreshore get crowded on warm afternoons, and kerbside space is tight. Inside Point Nepean National Park, roads and visitor areas have their own access arrangements, so we drop off and collect at the main visitor area unless you tell us otherwise. Mobile coverage can be patchy on the ocean side. There is no train service. Many holiday homes sit on private roads or behind gates and dense tea-tree, so please give the driver clear directions and a contact number in your booking.

Questions about travelling in Portsea
Can you take us to Point Nepean National Park from Portsea?
Yes. We usually drop off at the main visitor area near the park entrance, where the Quarantine Station precinct is. Let us know if you would like to be collected later, and book a set time since mobile reception can be unreliable in parts of the park. Accessible vehicles are available for wheelchair users.
Will you pick up from the Portsea Hotel late at night?
We can. Summer evenings at the Portsea Hotel are busy, so book your trip home in advance and agree a pick-up point out of the main crowd. Groups heading back to Sorrento, Rye or further can share the Maxi WAT, which seats six plus two wheelchairs.
How do I get from Portsea to Melbourne Airport?
Book a taxi at least a day ahead and give us your flight time, so we can plan a pick-up that allows for traffic along Point Nepean Road and the freeways. For the trip home, add your flight number and we will track it. A fixed quote is available on request for this longer journey.
Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?
Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.
Can a carer or family member come too?
Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.
How do I pay?
Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
