In short

Taxi Peninsula provides wheelchair accessible taxis in Arthurs Seat since 2016, using ramp and hoist vans with wheelchair restraints and drivers who help you from door to door. We travel anywhere across Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, including hospitals, day programs and Melbourne and Avalon airports, and carers travel with you. Book online in about two minutes or call 0468 323 211. Fares depend on distance and waiting time; MPTP, NDIS and aged-care accounts are accepted.

Arthurs Seat is both a mountain and a place people live, and Taxi Peninsula serves residents and visitors around the clock. We send sedans for everyday trips and wheelchair accessible vehicles with a ramp or hydraulic hoist for passengers who stay seated in their wheelchair. Bookings take about two minutes online, and you’ll get confirmation by SMS or email.

Rising above Dromana, McCrae and Rosebud, Arthurs Seat offers wide views over Port Phillip. Visitors come for Arthurs Seat State Park, the summit lookouts, Seawinds Gardens and the Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola, which runs between the base and the summit. Enchanted Adventure Garden is popular with families. Residents live along winding roads in bushland and on acreage, and travel down to Dromana and Rosebud for shopping and Rosebud Hospital, and to Frankston Hospital or Melbourne Airport for longer trips.

Weekends and holidays are busy on the mountain, so book ahead if you’re visiting or need a ride for an appointment. Groups can share the Maxi WAT. MPTP cards and NDIS and aged-care accounts are accepted, and carers travel with the passenger. Families with a grandparent in a power chair can travel together in the Maxi WAT, which has a hydraulic hoist and room for six seated passengers. Residents heading to Rosebud Hospital or Frankston Hospital can choose “pick up when ready” and tap “I’m ready” when finished, and a car will come back up the mountain. For flights, add your flight number.

What should I know about getting around Arthurs Seat?

Arthurs Seat Road climbs the escarpment with tight bends and steep grades, and other roads around the summit are narrow and wooded. Fog and low cloud can settle on the mountain, especially in winter. Many homes are tucked down long driveways or along bush tracks, some unsealed, so give us directions and tell us where the driver can turn. Weekends, school holidays and fine days bring heavy visitor traffic to the summit and the Eagle. If you’re being collected from a park or garden, name the car park or entrance, as several attractions share the same roads.

What trips can I book from Arthurs Seat?

Questions about travelling in Arthurs Seat

Can you take us to the top so we can ride the Eagle down?

Yes. We can drop you at the summit and meet you at the bottom, or the other way round. Tell us which end you’re starting from, and book your second trip as “pick up when ready”. Tap “I’m ready” or call us once you’re off the gondola, and a car will be sent.

Can a wheelchair user visit the summit lookouts?

We can take wheelchair users to the summit car park in an accessible vehicle with four-point restraints. Accessibility of individual paths, gardens and the gondola is managed by those attractions, so check with them before you go. Our driver will help you from the vehicle to the entrance or lookout area.

Do you pick up from homes on the mountain roads?

Yes, we pick up from homes all over Arthurs Seat. Some driveways are steep, narrow or unsealed, so tell us about gates, slopes and turning space when booking. If the driveway isn’t suitable, we can agree on a meeting point at the road for a safe pick-up.

Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?

Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.

Can a carer or family member come too?

Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

How do I pay?

Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
