Stony Point Ferry Terminal is on Western Port, at the end of the road through Crib Point. Passenger ferries run from here to Tankerton on French Island and to Cowes on Phillip Island, making Stony Point the main gateway between the Mornington Peninsula and the Western Port islands.
People catch the ferry for day trips to French Island’s walking and cycling tracks, for visits to Cowes, or to commute to work on the islands. The terminal sits next to Stony Point railway station, but trains on this line are infrequent, so many travellers prefer a direct taxi. French Island has very limited roads and services, so visitors often travel light and on foot or by bike. Residents of the islands also cross to the mainland for appointments, shopping and to connect with trains, and need a reliable ride from the jetty to wherever they are going on the Peninsula or in Frankston.
