The Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville is Victoria’s major specialist paediatric hospital. It treats babies, children and adolescents from across the state, including those with complex and rare conditions, and runs a wide range of specialist clinics alongside its emergency department and wards.
Families from the Mornington Peninsula and Frankston often travel to The Royal Children’s for specialist care. Appointments can be frequent, and a long drive into the city with an unwell child, followed by a search for parking, is hard on everyone. Some families need to bring siblings, a wheelchair or a lot of equipment. When a child is admitted, parents often travel back and forth between home and the hospital to care for siblings, collect clothes or relieve each other at the bedside.
