Southern Cross Station on Spencer Street is Melbourne’s main hub for regional and interstate travel. It is the terminus for V/Line regional trains and coaches, interstate trains and coaches, and the SkyBus service from Melbourne Airport, as well as being a major metropolitan station.
Peninsula residents often arrive at Southern Cross after a trip to regional Victoria, an interstate train, or the SkyBus from the airport. From there, getting home to Frankston or further down the Peninsula involves a train change and possibly a bus, which is tiring with luggage, especially late at night. Travellers coming home from the airport on SkyBus often have large suitcases and may have been travelling for many hours. Those returning on V/Line from regional Victoria may arrive late in the evening, when trains to Frankston run less often. A direct taxi saves several transfers and gets you home without carrying bags up and down platforms.
