Squeezed between the bay and the slopes of Arthurs Seat, McCrae is a narrow strip of homes and holiday houses, and we look after it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether you need a standard taxi to Rosebud or a wheelchair accessible vehicle with a ramp or hoist, Taxi Peninsula can send the right car. Our drivers help door to door, which matters on McCrae’s steeper streets.
The white McCrae Lighthouse stands beside Point Nepean Road, and the historic McCrae Homestead is a reminder that this was one of the earliest settled parts of the peninsula. Above the town, the Arthurs Seat Eagle gondola climbs the escarpment to the summit, so visitors often ask for a lift to or from the base station. Locals mostly travel to Rosebud for shopping and Rosebud Hospital, to Dromana for the cinema and cafes, and further afield to Frankston Hospital, Frankston station or Melbourne Airport via the freeway.
Hillside homes up the side of Arthurs Seat can be tricky to find at night, so a quick note about your driveway or a nearby street helps. For early flights, specialist appointments in the city or a hospital admission, booking ahead gives you peace of mind. Groups can travel together in the Maxi WAT, which carries up to two wheelchairs and six seated passengers, and we take MPTP cards, NDIS and aged-care accounts.

What should I know about getting around McCrae?
McCrae is long and thin: Point Nepean Road runs along the water, and the residential streets climb quickly up the lower slopes of Arthurs Seat. Some of those upper streets are steep and winding with limited room to turn, so tell us if your driveway is sharp or your house sits well above the road. The freeway is close by for trips north, which avoids most of the foreshore traffic. In January and on sunny weekends the bay road through McCrae can crawl with beach traffic and Eagle visitors, so allow a little extra time and book ahead if you have a train, flight or appointment to make.

Questions about travelling in McCrae
Can a taxi get up the steep streets above Point Nepean Road?
Yes, our cars regularly handle McCrae’s hillside streets. Where a driveway is very steep or narrow, the driver may stop on the street and help you down to the car instead. If you use a wheelchair, mention the slope when booking so we can plan where the vehicle should park for a safe, level loading spot.
Can you take us to the Arthurs Seat Eagle and pick us up later?
We can drop you near the Eagle and collect you afterwards, either at the bottom or from the summit car park if you only ride one way. Book the return as “pick up when ready” and let us know which end you’ll finish at, then tap “I’m ready” or call when you’re back on the ground.
How do I get from McCrae to Frankston station for a train?
We’ll take you directly from your door to Frankston station, usually via the freeway. For an early train into the city, book the night before and add a note about luggage. Many McCrae residents also use us for the reverse trip, booking a pick-up at Frankston when they come home late in the evening.
Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?
Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.
Can a carer or family member come too?
Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.
How do I pay?
Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
