HMAS Cerberus is the Royal Australian Navy’s training base on Western Port, next to Crib Point, and Taxi Peninsula provides taxis for navy members, visitors and families around the clock. We run sedans for trips to the station, shops or airport, and wheelchair accessible vehicles for passengers who travel in their chair, including grandparents or relatives coming to a special occasion.
The base is surrounded by bush and farmland, with Crib Point, Hastings and Balnarring nearby. Navy members often travel to Frankston for trains and shopping, to Melbourne Airport for leave and postings, and into the city on weekends. Visiting family and friends usually stay in nearby towns or along the peninsula, and need transport to and from the base area on important days. Frankston Hospital and The Bays Hospital in Mornington are the main hospitals in the region.
Book ahead for flights, weekend leave and special events, when demand rises. Families can travel together in the Maxi WAT, which carries up to two wheelchairs and six seated passengers. We accept MPTP cards and NDIS and aged-care accounts, and carers can ride with the passenger. Arriving at Melbourne Airport? Add your flight number and we’ll track it, so a delay doesn’t leave anyone stranded. For appointments at Frankston Hospital, choose “pick up when ready” and tap “I’m ready” or call when finished. Ask for a fixed quote if you’d like the fare confirmed before travel.

What should I know about getting around HMAS Cerberus?
The base is reached via Frankston–Flinders Road, with Crib Point and Stony Point to one side and Hastings to the north. Base access is controlled by Defence, so you’ll need the right arrangements to enter, and we’ll drop you at the entry point you’re directed to. Traffic can be heavier on days with large events at the base. The Stony Point train line passes nearby, but services are less frequent than metro trains, so many people take a taxi to Frankston station. Questions about travelling in HMAS Cerberus
Can the taxi drive onto the base?
Base access is controlled by Defence, so we can’t promise entry. We’ll take you to the gate or meeting point you’ve been directed to, and drop you there. If you’re a visitor, make sure your access is arranged in advance. When booking, tell us where you need to go and give us a contact number.
We’re family coming for a special event at the base. Can you help?
Yes. We can collect you from Melbourne Airport, Frankston station or your accommodation and bring you to the base area. Book early, as these days can be busy. If a relative uses a wheelchair, our accessible vehicles have ramps or hoists and four-point restraints, and the family can travel together.
Can you take me to Melbourne Airport for leave?
Yes, we run 24 hours. Book ahead, add your flight details and tell us your pick-up point. If you’re coming back to the base, give us your arrival flight number and we’ll track it. Groups of members going on leave together can share a car or the Maxi WAT.
Can I travel in my power wheelchair or scooter?
Yes. Most manual and power wheelchairs fit, and you stay seated in your chair. Tell us the make, width and weight when you book so we send the right vehicle. Mobility scooters can travel when they can be safely restrained — please check with us first.
Can a carer or family member come too?
Yes. Carers, family and assistance animals are welcome. Include everyone in the passenger count so we send a vehicle with enough seats.
How do I pay?
Pay the driver by card or cash, use your Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) card, or choose "Account / invoice" for NDIS plan managers, aged-care providers and businesses.
