Rye is a relaxed seaside town on the southern Peninsula, quiet in winter and lively in summer, and Taxi Peninsula covers it at all hours of the day and night. We send a sedan for ordinary trips and a wheelchair accessible taxi whenever a passenger needs ramp or hoist access.

On the bay side, Rye’s main shopping strip faces the foreshore along Point Nepean Road, close to Rye Pier and its calm beach. A short drive south takes you across the Peninsula to the rugged ocean back beaches, including St Andrews Beach and Gunnamatta. Peninsula Hot Springs in nearby Fingal attracts visitors throughout the year, and local golf courses are popular too. Residents commonly travel to Rosebud Hospital, Rosebud Plaza, Sorrento for the ferry, Frankston Hospital and Melbourne Airport, and holidaymakers book us to and from rental houses in summer. Outside summer, Rye is a settled community with many retirees and families who live here year round, and their trips tend to be medical appointments, shopping in Rosebud and visits to family.

Taxis are spread more thinly at the bottom of the Peninsula, so booking ahead is especially worthwhile for early flights or appointments in Frankston and Melbourne. Families and groups can share the Maxi WAT, which takes six seated passengers plus two wheelchairs. We accept MPTP cards and NDIS and aged-care accounts, and carers travel with the passenger. A fixed quote can be arranged for longer trips.

Point Nepean Road through Rye is slow in summer, with foreshore camping, beach parking and pedestrians crossing to the beach. The Mornington Peninsula Freeway ends near Rosebud, so trips north follow local roads towards Rosebud before joining it. Roads to the ocean beaches are narrow and can have sandy verges, and some holiday streets are unsealed. There is no train service here. When booking a holiday rental pick-up, include the full address and any name on the property, as numbering can be hard to spot at night. On ocean beach days, car parks at the back beaches fill early and stopping space near the paths is limited.

Can you take us from Rye to Peninsula Hot Springs?

Yes. Peninsula Hot Springs is in Fingal, close to Rye, and we take visitors there often. Book your return trip in advance or use the pick up when ready option, because demand rises in the evenings. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available, and groups can travel together in the Maxi WAT.

I am staying in a holiday rental in Rye. How do I make a booking?

Book online or by phone with the full street address, plus any property name or description that helps the driver find it at night. Rye holiday streets can be dark and poorly numbered. Add your mobile number so the driver can reach you, and your confirmation will arrive by SMS or email.

Do you go from Rye to the ocean back beaches?

We do. We can drop you at back beach car parks such as St Andrews Beach and pick you up later. Mobile reception can be patchy near some ocean beaches, so it is best to book your return at a set time. Note that the paths down to the sand are often steep and not suited to wheelchairs.
